Illusory Permanence: The Work of Hayden Senter
Portland, Oregon screen-printer Hayden Senter seeks to find the balance between what is permanent and what is ephemeral.
July 23 - December 31, 2020
Hayden Senter is an artist living and working in Portland, Oregon. Using a combination of muted and pastel color palettes, the artists’ prints, paintings, and drawings evoke a feeling of separation. His work explores the void between what he believes to be permanent in his life and the truth of its inherent ephemeral nature. Often the figures in his work convey a sense of apathetic acceptance. They are given the option of a solution to a problem but are seemingly ignorant of the fact that there is one. Placing them in an environment that mirrors these same ideas of impermanence allows for a continuous narrative. Re-creating this feeling in this body of work has become the search for a solution or understanding of this void.
