Artist Spotlight: Chelsea Rust

Growing up is hard, especially in a society that expects you to fit in a very small, uncomfortable one size fits all box that hardly anyone fits into. If you're a person that doesn't fit into that box the world can become a dangerous and honestly infuriating place to live in. That's why now more than ever we need art that challenges the status quo that white, heterosexual, conservatives try to uphold. Chelsea Rust challenges that status quo, and does it in the most whimsical, colorful, loving way. Chelsea Rust is a contemporary Filipinx-American artist interested in figurative painting depicting themes of psychology, gender expression, and personal iconography with elements of visual inspiration from Kawaii culture. She studied Visual Design at Las Vegas Academy of the Arts and holds a BFA in Illustration from the School of Visual Arts, NYC. To keep up with her and her art, find her on instagram! @ chelsearust
