    Acrylic on Cradled Panel

    12" × 16"

  • Katie uses nature and pattern to communicate human emotions and relationships, often preferring to paint animals, trees, waves or flowers, in place of people. Because of her connection to nature, this is a peaceful way for Katie to speak about these relationships. When she paints a field of flowers with a glass-like flowing background, she doesn't see flowers. She sees a crowd of people and how they are responding to each other in an unpredictable environment. She often uses metallic paints to emphasize the human element of the, along with bold colors and nature to highlight her love for life. Her experiences with workplace harassment, combined with her interest in psychology and her love of natural environments, has greatly influenced her art throughout her career.
