Joanna Michalowicz's paintings are abstract using acrylic and conte crayon on canvas board. She is from Krakow, Poland moving to New York in the late 1980’s. There she worked as a textile restorer for F.J. Hakimain Antiques Gallery and in 1994 received her BFA from Parsons School of Design. She opened Asha Carpets (2000) with her own handmade rug designs until moving to Las Vegas in 2016. Joanna’s art has been represented by the Priscilla Fowler Fine Art Gallery since 2017 and has shown in New York City and internationally including Germany and Italy.
“It begins with words. A word brings more. There is a line, a color, a shape, a meaning. Words create sentences, a poem or short “haiku”. I paint. I listen. I know very little at the beginning but with time, within layers of color and shapes the painting comes to life.”
